Fabian Basabe's Back in Town... And Back at the Cubby Hole!
By Fabian Basabe

So... FYI: If these past couple of days you thought you saw me strutting down the avenues like a jungle cat, polished yet effortless, mysteriously edgy but disarmingly approachable... yes, it was me. I AM BA-ACK!!! AND I LOVE IT!!!
I attended the Adam by Adam Lippes show over the weekend. I have been his strong supporter since the very beginning, partially because he is terribly talented but mostly because he and I have been friends forever, mildly at first, and incandescently after the week we spent in Rio de Janeiro for New Years Eve several years ago. When we hugged goodbye at JFK after our returning flight, I knew that a deep gratitude for surviving the vacation, a new found appreciation for the little things in life and secrets as dark as our perfect tans were the pillars of a very long-lasting friendship. And in fact, here we are, years later, still sensational looking, him, at the head of a very successful clothing line named after him, and me, just hanging out backstage….

About Last Night... The National Board of Review Gala
By Caroline Torem Craig

All the various Ciprianis evoke glamour and a little bit of Roman grandeur. So the Corinthian columns in the background coupled with the Cipriani ballroom’s gold lighting at last night's National Board of Review Gala brought a certain propriety to the overall scene… or maybe it was just the fact that I got to photograph George Clooney that's gotten me all poetic! Unforunately, he looked like he was auditioning for a part in The Exorcist, his head spinning to the chants of “Look this way, George! George, look at me!” Sarah Lawson, his date, ignored everyone and simply looked at him –- and why not? And as if that wasn’t enough torture for the girls, in stepped Denzel Washington! It was also quite a thrill to see the beautiful Julie Christie, who recently won a Golden Globe for her role in Away from Her. Amid the sea of black dresses, Jennifer Garner stepped up to the plate with a blue number, for which we applaud her. Evey year, this terribly sophisticated event takes place in New York, and this year, in the shadow of the ongoing writers strike, we were really thankful to be a part of it!

About Last Night... The ACE Awards
By Caroline Torem Craig

The theme of the ACE Awards (held last night at Cipriani 42nd St.) is to honor the individuals and companies who have furthered the awareness and use of accessories. Coming from the “how many accessories can I adorn myself with at one time without falling over” school, this award makes absolute sense to me!!
The fact that Jessica Simpson was one of the guest presenters sweetened the pie. What a celebrity turnout! Jessica, although she came accessory-free, was totally accessible. As were Kerry Washington, Tory Burch, Mandy Moore, Lucy Liu, Helena Christensen, Marc Jacobs and Heidi Klum!
There is a maddingly scary moment when a mega-watt celebrity enters the Red Carpet Arena and the photographers and all their equipment SURGE forward, poised to “get that shot at any cost!” and last night there were two such moments -- one for Heidi and one for Jessica.
Just before I left, I saw a chance to get this shot of Heidi and Marc. Heidi was surrounded by four adoring photographers and Marc interrupted her to say, “Heidi, this is a dear friend of mine from PAPER, can we take this photo?” Whoooosh – that was an “OH MY GOD” moment!

About Last Night... Fergie Squared and Other Glamour Girls
By Mickey Boardman

Last night two of our favorites came together. We're talking about a little Fergie on Fergie fun! Last year when we had Fergie (the former Stacy Ferguson) perform at our Nightlife Awards, it was our fantasy to have Fergie (the former Duchess of York) introduce her. Well that didn't happen. Until last night at Cipriani Wall Street at the party Deutsche Bank hosted for Cipriani's concert series to benefit Unicef and Sarah Ferguson's Foundation.
Meanwhile, around town, the kids lined up around the block for the Rembrandt tooth whitener party. Confusing I know, but it was worth it to hear the fabulous DJ stylings of Samantha Ronson and to chat with hostess Rashida Jones who's so cute and fun. Honestly Samantha gets cuter every time I see her. Rashida was in town for the TV Up Fronts and talked about the 'fun' of basically being on a receiving line as boozed up guys in suits come up to her and are obnoxious. The glamour of show biz!
