About Last Night... Calvin Klein's Arty Party in L.A.

By Camille Rousseau

Last night, Calvin Klein Collection and Los Angeles Nomadic Division (LAND) paired up to present a one-of-a-kind fusion of art and fashion in celebration of L.A's Arts month and Art Los Angeles Contemporary. The exclusive event was held in a spanking new, multi-level space and featured works on display by artists Jennifer West, Jean Shin and curator Neville Wakefield. Pieces from Mr. Costa's Spring 2010 Calvin Klein Collection dangled underneath "Pattern Folds," Ms. Shin's massive art installation, commissioned by Calvin Klein and first unveiled in Seoul. The installation transformed castoff materials into what looked like pieces of angular origami, hovering over the clothes (the clothes!). The silky pieces dangled on individual hangers and looked much like wet butterfly cocoons left to dry out in the sun, seamlessly echoing and balancing the artistic themes of the night. Celebrities flocked to the event, all beautifully outfitted by Mr. Costa and Mr. Zuccelli. Among those flaunting the fabulous frocks: Coco Rocha, Ryan Phillipe, Penelope Cruz, Jordana Brewster, Kate Boswoth, Ginnifer Goodwin, Greg Kinnear, Jared Leto and Monet Mazur, to name just a few. As the event wore on, most of the guests found themselves on the rootftop, partying the night away illuminated by both the bone-colored moon and the neon glow of the Pacific Design Center--a little piece of unexpected inspiration.
