Murder By Decree On DVD!

Out on DVD, to cash in on the new Sherlock Holmes film, is Murder By Decree, an enjoyable, intelligent Sherlock Holmes thriller starring Christopher Plummer as the crafty detective and a touching James Mason as his sidekick Dr. Holmes. When they are not called by Scotland Yard during the Jack The Ripper killings, Holmes senses something's not afoot and uncovers a government conspiracy, shadowy villains, psychics, insane doctors, and a luckless woman cruelly institutionalized for what she knows (played winningly by Genevieve Bujold). Directed by Bob Clark (Christmas Story, Porky's, Black Christmas and the fabulous Deathdream), this 1979 film has great atmosphere, exciting chases through fog-shrouded streets, and makes for top notch entertainment.
