Iranian Rockers Hypernova Live Up to the... Hype at Mercury Lounge
By Alex Catarinella
Allow me to introduce you to the super talented Iranian rockers (AKA my new fave band), Hypernova. And if their yes, hyper-nova of a show at Mercury Lounge on Tuesday night was any indication, you will be Googling your fave band member in no time. Comprised of five guys with a penchant for black skinnies and well-tailored suits, Hypernova has all the biggies talking--from MTV to ABC to Billboard. But while many are initially intrigued because they're an indie band from Iran, it's all about the music.
Lead vocalist Raam made the crowd lose their minds when he made his dramatic entrance -- his back faced the audience while whoever's in charge of lighting really put their skills to use (Seriously, props to the light guy wherever you are!). I failed at trying to pinpoint comparisons for Raam's throaty bass pipes the entire evening -- he's just that damn good. But one thing's for sure, he's incredibly charismatic -- intense at times, gripping the mic with both hands with his eyes tightly shut, while at other times playful and in your face. Fortunately, all of the Hypernova boys are perfection -- Kami was a mad man on the drums, and I had to ask him how his arms were holding up after the show. Lead guitarist, Kodi, whipped the shit out of his curly locks, kicked over a mic, and joined in on the drums for the crowd-favorite closer, "Fairytales." So do yourself a favor, and get your YouTube on ASAP so you can say you knew them way back when...

I never heard of them, but I'm interested in hearing their music. Very well written article.

I saw these guys open for "Sisters of Mercy" a while back and they absolutely blew my mind. Their energy on stage is something I don't see in many bands.
good luck.

Unfortunately I've never see them live, but just checked their videos and specially "Fairy tales" was really good. Good band with Indie Persian spirit I would say.
Keep on going.....
