Word of Mouth

Kids From My Travels: London Boys and Girl Fanny, Gary & Neil

By Jeffrey Kilmer

WHO: Fanny Minka
AGE: 28
OCCUPATION: I freelance doing crew work in film production and aspire to start producing my own films some day. I also co-host the Erotic Book Club in East London and keep my own exhibitionist blog.
HOMETOWN: I spent all my childhood in the small town of Molong in regional Australia but then moved to Sydney in my late teens, and thus consider it to be my true hometown.
FAVORITE LONDON HANGOUT: For amazing brunch, Leila's Cafe; for bicycles and good coffee, Lock 7; for low key cocktails, Lounge Bohemia; and for boozing and crazy dancing, The Haggerston. All can be found here.

WHO: Sir Gazz of Tronics (a.k.a. Gary)

AGE: 25

OCCUPATION: I'm a tattooist, exploring the darker sides of traditional art, folk law, Victorian heroes and villains constantly trying to understand the geometric complexities of time and matter.
HOMETOWN: Hastings to Brighton to London
FAVORITE LONDON HANGOUT: For Hastings, the Old Town is the spot where I reside for drinking habits. It is the oldest part, the old fishing community, full of characters. Many old taverns line the paths of George Street.
In Brighton there can't be just one hang out. With the genial student population, it's mainly a house party heaven. Piccalos for lunch and The Lanes is the general hangout.
And in London, the East End seems to be a favourite for most these days, full of all the apparent movers and shakers, artists and bohemians, lazy students. There's a nice vibe about this place, I like to find old pubs in the back streets that smell and are full of old cockney that go on about the time when this place was run down and not so full of the hip kids like it is today.

WHO: Neil Davies
AGE: 28
OCCUPATION: I am a freelance graphic designer based in London. I work mainly within the music, fashion and what they call the 'boardsports' industries, making product look cool so other people can make a lot of money (or in the case of some of the bands I work for, lose money). I can't complain. I work alone in a home studio most of the time (my bedroom), so I can sit with my stereo up and work naked if I want to. Visually, it's a mixed bag. Right now, I'm into corny heavy metal imagery and psychedelic artwork. I'm not one of these guys that beats off over a sans serif typeface and I don't carry a macbook in a man-bag. Occasionally for a break, I go out on the road with friends in bands and sell merch.
