Doris Day Collection On DVD!
By Dennis Dermody

Out on DVD this week is the Doris Day Collection. National treasure Doris Day hadn’t yet found her cinematic footing in many of these sparking musicals/ comedies offered here, but the vivacious blonde is always appealing and a delight to watch on the screen. In this wildly enjoyable five-film set there’s:
It’s a Great Feeling (1949): Doris plays an actress/waitress trying to break into the movie business with the help of Jack Carson and Dennis Morgan. Real movie stars like Joan Crawford, Gary Cooper and Patricia Neal make sparkling cameos.
Starlift (1951): This one stars Doris, Gordon MacRea, James Cagney, Virginia Mayo and Jane Wyman performing for the troops during the war.
April In Paris (1952): Doris plays a brash showgirl named Dynamite Jackson that is mistakenly invited to represent America in a Paris expo and Ray Bolger as the government official forced to break the bad news to her (who falls in love with her).
The Tunnel Of Love (1958): Doris stars alongside Richard Widmark as a Connecticut suburban couple trying desperately to adopt a child with randy neighbor Gig Young as (sort of) moral support.
Tea For Two (1950): This is the best of the bunch -- a reworking of the stage musical No No Nanette, with Doris as a former heiress (in the Depression) who makes a costly bet that she has to say “no” to everything in order to win. She also has joined the cast of a Broadway-bound musical with handsome costar Gordon MacRae which complicates matters. Eve Arden shines as the woman shadowing Day to make sure she keeps to the bet.
This fun collection comes with short subjects, classic cartoons and theatrical trailers.
