Wow, VPL was a madhouse yesterday. Victoria Bartlett packed the house with an uber uber UBER fashion crowd, all geared up and looking hot as hell. Hamish Bowles, Arden Wohl, Kate Lanphear, Andreas Kokkino and Waris were all on hand to witness the subtle spectacle that is VPL's Fall 2009 collection. The pre-show soundtrack set a pleasant tone -- "Cheree" by Suicide is always fantastic. I've been listening to it on repeat as I sit here writing this... The 34-piece collection is smooth and stunning, smart, strong, sexy and solid. I'm sold! Right before the show we had a quick chat in front of the board with all the looks on it.

Let's start with the last question first, and work our way back shall we? What are you planning on doing tomorrow?
I haven't planned it. I'm gonna rest. I'll probably do nothing.

Sounds amazing... You deserve it. Tell me about the music you picked for the show.
Well I always like a mix. I like it to be diverse. We have one song with Gavin Brown just talking, with have an '80s band... For the finale, we have something psychedelic. It's great, I'm really happy with it.

Talk to me about the inspriation for this collection.
It's all about sort of shifting the body. It was based on the surrealists and the way they painted bodies. Things were manipulated, things were dropped. There's a lot of things like maneuvering, different lengths. It's almost like battling lengths, in a way. There are curves, it's asymmetrical, there are a lot of circles, things floating... I love these shapes. I always like ying and yang.

Who made these necklaces and accessories?
I love collaborating with people. I worked with Lizzie Fortunato. The hair accesssories are by Shopflifer and Edda -- you probably know them, right?

Yes. Love.
Brian Crumley did all the wooden skeletal pieces. Josh Hickey did all these old Moliere books that he dissassembled and put back together as necklaces...
