A Quick Chit-Chat With Andreas Kokkino

Stylist Andreas Kokkino is busy striking a hammer directly on the proverbial fashion nail. He's a style constructor. He's a stylist's stylist. He's been fashioning an incredible portfolio over at Interview lately, and his work at the Times Magazine always features his unique panache. Plus he's a total sweetheart. I caught up with him and asked him a couple questions about work and passion and the future and...

How did you know you were meant to do this?
I went to school for theater and after college two people helped me realize that my creativity could be channeled through fashion: my ex-boyfriend Hussein [Chalayan] and my old boss Bill Mullen; both of whose work I worship.

You've worked with soooo many people. Which collaboration stands out for you?
My work with Sebastian Kim stands out because it's a total
collaboration. We have a team that works really well together and it's fun shooting with friends. Otherwise there a couple that haven't been published yet that you'll have to stay tuned for.

What's your look all about?
Bright colors, graphic prints and black, of course.

How important is personal style?
Well I would certainly never date or marry anyone who doesn't have a true sense of personal style, but in the long run, it's not solving global problems, it's not neurosurgery, but who cares?

Care to spoil us with any hints of some upcoming fashion trends?
Non-military uniforms and masculinity -- and I feel like (though I cannot wear them) bell bottoms.

What's going/gone the way of the Dodo?
Dressing like a lady. At least I hope so. I hate ladies.

OUCH! OK, last question: Please describe the best experience you've had recently.
I'm dreaming of summer so, I'll say spending the day with my boyfriend David on Governors Island.
