Moises Oscar, Designer/Photographer
By Paul Johnson-Calderon
Aside from being a well known bachelor-about-town, my dear friend, and son of famed fashion designer, Oscar de la Renta, Moises Oscar has a thing or two up his sleeve. For starters, who knew this handsome fashion scion was an uber talented photographer? I sat down with Moises at his apartment/studio and got a first-hand look at where all of the creative magic happens. We talked about life, ambition, talent and desire. Check out his photos above, and be on the lookout for MDLR, a hot new clothing label from the young photographer/designer.
Without any further ado... Moises Oscar.
Where do you look for inspiration?
I think life -- that's the great thing about photography. It's kind of just everyday things you see, things that make you happy, things that make you cringe. Other than my life and what I see through my eyes, But Bresson and some others have always been great inspirations.
I love the grainy/real-life feel of some of your images.
I try not to fuck with the image to much, in a post production sense.
Tell me about your upcoming projects -- MDLR and Vacant Circles.
MDLR is a women's ready to wear line I am working on -- it's the new shit!! Vacantcirclesdesign.com is my website. It's just like a small design firm -- hub, I guess you could say. It's under heavy construction at the moment, but it's soon to be the hottest thing since smores.
How do you incorporate your interest in fashion into your photography?
I don't know, i just snap what I like, and sometimes what I don't like... but really what I like usually that trancesnds into the subjects' fashion or visual aesthetic.
When did you start taking pictures?
17
As far as fashion goes, what inspires your style?
David Bowie, Syd Barrett, Iggy Pop and Ian Curtis.... and Paul Wellor.
Who do you think is super hot?
Johnny Thunders
What are your plans for the New Year?
Work, hang with my family and friends, and more work.
