Backstage at Christian Lacroix: Haute Earrings

Backstage at the Centre Pompidou, the Christian Lacroix team expertly allocated makeup, coiffure, buffet vittles, wardrobe and pre-runway lookbook shooting (with my beloved Ellen von Unwerth). While watching Heidi Mount, Tanya Dziahileva and Vlada Roslyakova get their hair styled by legendary Odile Gilbert, the most telling soupçon of the confections came to me in the form of these giant, glittery earrings (pictured above on my dear friend Siri Tollerød). The alien-like buttressing wire that supported the ponderous "bangles for the ear" added a dramatic lunar-like élan to an Haute Couture collection heavily influenced by Lacroix's fanciful 1980's design heritage.
