Kelly Cutrone's Magical Mugler Tour
By Julia Frakes
Since shuttering his couture house in 2003, the "King of Fierce" Thierry Mugler shifted his razor-sharp focus to fragrances –- specifically his new Naomi Watts-fronted Angel scent, the bestselling perfume in France (and #8 in the United States). That is until Sasha Fierce herself came a-crooning after falling crazy in love with the designer/photographer's powerful aesthetic at the Costume Institute "Superheroes" exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Mugler will collaborate with Beyoncé Knowles as "creative adviser" on her upcoming international tour. Launching this March in Canada, Mugler will devise 58 ensembles for Beyoncé, the band, the back-up dancers and singers; helm the choreography and set lighting; and direct three avant-garde concert segments (including the groundbreaking finale). Taking a cue from his loyal vintage-smitten devotees (Beyoncé even donned a ferocious vintage '97 Mugler gown on the Peter Lindbergh-lensed I Am Sasha Fierce two-disc album cover) the new Spring 2009 Thierry Mugler prêt-à-porter collection harkens back to his more wearable archives. In this PAPERMAG exclusive, People's Revolution superwoman Kelly Cutrone takes Monsieur Mickey, Mark "the Cobrasnake" Hunter, and yours truly for a posh Parisian showroom tour of the new collection. Enjoy!
