Word of Mouth

IFC Center Presents Peur(s) du Noir

By Paul Johnson-Calderon

Peur(s) du Noir

On a road trip through New England, I stopped at my mother's house. While scrolling through the On-Demand flicks, I stumbled upon Peur(s) du Noir (Translation: Fear(s) of the Dark). Narrated by Aure Atika and Guillaume Depardieu, Peur(s) du Noir is a surreal and sublimely scary journey into the dark. It boasts the work of six leading graphic artists; Blutch, Charles Burns, Marie Caillou, Pierre di Sciullo, Lorenzo Mattotti, and Richard McGuire; and made official selection at Sundance and the LA Film Festival. I have to give it up to Etienne Robial for his brilliant artistic direction; the six interwoven nightmares flow together impeccably. Luckily for New Yorkers, this film is playing tonight (at 7:40 and 9:55 p.m.) through Tuesday at the IFC Center. This film gave me the most intense nightmares -- and I don't scare easy!!
