Word of Mouth

FWF Report From the Stuart Weitzman Store Opening

By Rebecca Prusinowski

Throughout this here Fashion Week if you happen upon PAPERMAG scribe Rebecca Prusinowski, and see her averting her eyes -- don't think that she's ignoring you! She's just checking out your feet for her new column, the Fashion Week Footwear Report, which we've conveniently shortened to the FWF Report. Here's her first installment.

After an interior design overhaul, Stuart Weitzman re-opened his NYC flagship store on Madison Avenue Wednesday night. White ribbon shelving that wrapped around the store showcased his latest footwear, and here’s what we observed:

Purple is still super-hot, making its way from separates last season down to footwear this season.

Leopard print accessories are still roaring; check out the suede collection above.

Stuart Weitzman’s studded footwear has taken biker-chic up a notch.

Even though they’re unflattering on most gals’ legs, ankle boots can not be stopped! Weitzman varies the trend with innovative sculpting and some cool mid-calf designs.

Also on display are the celebrity-designed shoes being auctioned all month on stuartweitzman.com, with 100 percent of the proceeds benefiting ovarian cancer research. Among the girly array, Joy Bryant’s graffiti art-inspired heel stood out as super-cool. The lovely actress and former model sat down and chatted about her favorite footwear. Aside from Weitzman, it’s “Minnetonka Moccasin boots!” she declared without hesitation. “Brown, black, lace-up, fringed, high, low… I love them all! I’ve been wearing them for over a decade.” She may even have them on at the tents, ‘cuz she’s planning to dress bike-friendly this week. “Riding my bike is eco-friendly, it’s easier, and it’ll make a statement…” Look out for Joy peddling to the Promenade!
