Word of Mouth

About Last Night... The Metropolitan Opera's 125th Anniversary Season Opening

By Caroline Torem Craig

With the longest red carpet ever, the beautifully dressed, coiffed and perfumed divas got more exercise than planned, I'm sure, at last night's Metropolitan Opera season kick-off gala. Helen Mirren was an unexpected treat and I blurted out, "Thank god you came!" to her amusement. Martha Stewart was looking and feeling her best in Ralph Rucci. Christie Brinkley, we were told, was delayed by the UN General Assembly traffic. Flashing a thousand-watt smile, Christie finally came, posed and conquered!
