Javier Bardem, Harvey Weinstein, Patricia Clarkson and Penelope Cruz

At last night’s “private” screening of Vicky Christina Barcelona, while we waited for the heavy hitters to arrive (Javier Bardem, Penelope Cruz, Patricia Clarkson and Harvey Weinstein), one well-known, almost certifiable photographer stretched out on a bench and took a nap with a paper over his head! Meanwhile, a lad to my left mused over whether anyone would ever get a pic of Javier and Penelope together and attributed the difficulty to Javier’s “macho, Spanish, Man of La Mancha-ness.” There was also a spirited discussion over whether Woody Allen would attend. To which one photog said, “No, he doesn’t go out too much anymore -- he’s too old.” This brought jeers of laughter from someone else who said, “You obviously didn’t see the photo of him staring at Scarlett Johansson’s breasts [actually he used the word ‘tits’] at the L.A. premiere pictured in today’s Post.” Merrily we rolled along. And really, there is no denying the perfection that is Penelope Cruz. Even though she almost always wears black, she chose a proper Marchesa number, worn with a nod to designer Georgina Chapman, Harvey’s wife.
