Word of Mouth

Introducing... Scout About Town!

I suppose the best way to start would be to introduce myself. My name is Scout LaRue, I will be 17 in July, I am a Cancer and a Leo and I live in Los Angeles. I love silk dresses, I am addicted to old films and my favorite channel is TCM. Does it ever feel like our modern society lacks class, that certain je ne sais quoi of decades past? In this age of free city sweat pants, neon fanny packs, silly plastic glasses you can’t see out of, I sometimes despair over the lack of elegance in contemporary dressing and behavior. Where are the manners? The decorum? The etiquette for goodness sake!!?!

To find these things all one has to do is turn on an old movie. My goal for this new endeavor of mine is to present a little bit class with some of my own musings about fashion, movie stars (not the type in People magazine), the movies they made and the glamour they left behind.

Everyday I try to inject a little bit of old-fashioned charm into my life. Be that by watching Gone with the Wind before I go out, talking with a bit of a haughty Southern accent, reading a book on proper table manners, finding the courage to wear those wild Katherine Hepburn pants I bought last summer, or just dressing way up for everyday events.

Recently I began playing game when eating dinner with my family. Each night I dress as a different silver screen star from a certain film and they have to guess who I am and what film I am from. The first night I dressed as one of my most favorite movie stars of all time, Marlene Dietrich, as she appeared in the classic film Morocco. This included tuxedo dress pants, white shirt, tail coat and a top hat to boot. I took on a bit of her persona; I was regal, amused and fascinating. By dressing as Marlene I got some of her confidence as well. It’s about translating the glamour from the screen into every day life, finding your own mystique.

The women in your family like tuxedo's, eh Scout (wink, wink)? I've always thought AMCTV was one of the most undervalued media properties around. I always thought they could be a sort of E! Television for serious lovers of Hollywood chic.
