GIVE A SHOUT TO WORD UP! wordup@papermag.com

Word of Mouth

Scenes from Mr. Brainwash's “Life is Beautiful” Exhibit in L.A.

By J. Everette Perry

In an abandoned Hollywood studio stands over 200 pieces of original work hailed to be some of California's greatest street art. Though Mr. Brainwash (or MBW as his adoring fans call him) isn't even a So Cal Native, he is well respected by every major artist in the area including Banksy and Shepard Fairey (who DJed for MBW's opening night party). He isn't really your typical law braking graffiti bandit. He blends modern pop with historical references and then sits back to see if the viewer can figure out the message.

Mr. Brainwash told me in his cute Parisian accent that his favorite place to visit is Paris and his favorite song is “It's a Small World After All.” He then started humming it and rode off on his scooter.

I recommend all you Angelinos and any East Coasters in town stop by the show and check it out. It's has been extended through July.
