Paki-Splatter: Hell's Ground!

By Dennis Dermody

HellsGround

Hell’s Ground, the first gory horror movie from Pakistan is coming out on DVD, and it's an enjoyable if familiar tale of a group of friends who lie to their parents so they can pile into a garishly-painted van and drive to a rock concert. Along the way they run into mutating villagers, infected by contaminated water, who attack the van. Then they pick up a weird hitchhiker who’s carrying a dismembered head in his satchel. And if that isn’t enough they run out of gas and get attacked by a weird figure wearing a blood-spattered burkha swinging a medieval-looking spiked ball on a chain. Director Omar Ali Khan joyously borrows from scores of American horror classics like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Night of the Living Dead, but there’s still a delightfully offbeat foreignness to the Paki-splatter that makes for gruesome good cheer.

Dennis! Just reading some of your reviews is enough to evoke nightmares! How do you sleep these days? Really good drugs-I hope. So happy to have found you after all these years...Mac (Pat)
