Peter Beste's "True Norweigan Black Metal" Opens at Steven Kasher
By Kat Clements
On a dark and stormy night Peter Beste, along with a mix of Brooklyn hip-hopsters pals, hardcore heavy-metal fans, and fine-art collecting aficionados, celebrated both the launch of his monograph and a show of photos from it, at the Steven Kasher Gallery. Beste's book, True Norwegian Black Metal, chronicles an intense, clandestine and rage-filled music scene; his party on the other hand was a laid-back, open and somewhat sunny affair. We love anyone who can shift so seamlessly between such divergent scenes and who serves us wine, beer and stunning, if sometimes chilling, photos while they're at it.
Steven Kasher Gallery, 521 W. 23rd St. Exhibit runs through Jun. 7.
