Shop of the Week: Brooklyn Flea
By Rebecca Prusinowski

Brownstoner’s Brooklyn Flea outdoor market debuted this past weekend on a blustery Sunday morning in Fort Greene. Following quite a bit of pre-flea buzz, thousands flocked to the infield selling grounds at Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School on Lafayette Avenue to browse goods ranging from vintage Russian theater posters to silkscreen tees for toddlers. There were booths peddling high- and low-priced antiques, second-hand clothing, music, media, arts, crafts, jewelry, and other quintessentially flea market finds. But beyond these flea market standards -- like old tobacco tins and stained glass -- the outdoor bazaar featured a massive assortment of new clothing and products. Local businesses like Sesame Letterpress and Brooklyn Social Cards showcased their custom-crafted cards and coasters as Etsy.com sold their original clothing designs nearby. Keeping with the borough’s increasingly domestic vibe, lots of kiddie wear was on display, too. And because all that perusing and purchasing makes ‘ya hungry, Brooklyn vendors including Choice Market, Three Birds Bakery and Wafels+Dinges were selling tasty treats on-site. More market and food vendors are in the works, so Brownstoner’s Brooklyn Flea promises only to get bigger -- which means your lazy Sundays just got even better.
