Shop of the Week: Acne
By Rebecca Prusinowski

Acne, the Swedish clothing brand known best for their innovative denim, has opened a North American flagship store on Greene Street in the former Cloak space. The studio carries both their men’s and women’s clothing and accessories, and the selection is strong and pretty simple: Acne makes staple wardrobe pieces that look good dressed up or down, whether it’s their woven dresses, cotton tanks or tailored jackets. Jeans are the big draw, of course, with various prints and colors like green, navy, black, peach, slate and khaki available in cuts ranging from wide leg to super skinny. They cost between $200-350. The women’s shoes for sale are seriously bad-ass… but so are their price tags, at $415-550.
Although only steps away from the chaos of Canal Street, the new store is calm and very cool, with custom-made fixtures and decorative touches appointed throughout the 1,000-square-foot space. High heels are encased by glass while men’s button downs and tees are folded in tiny drawers made of painted metal latticework. Acne accessories are positioned in little cubby boxes around the store, and the back wall features floor-to-ceiling shelves decked with a rolling library ladder, stacks of bright denim and swinging doors to a hidden dressing room chamber. Giant mirrors cut in funky formations reflect a massive wall installation of 139 hand-blown glass bulbs, created for the store by a Swedish designer as a nod to the home country’s uniquely shaped doorknobs. It’s artsy, it’s intriguing, it’s Acne. Acne, 10 Greene St., (212) 625-2828.
