Happy Birthday Capricorn!

By Ann Magnuson

I'd like to extend a very happy birthday to all my fellow Capricorns! Many famous driven people are Capricorns. Folks who make a point of making their mark in the world. As Kris Kristofferson reminded us, Jesus was a Capricorn. So was Elvis Presley, Marlene Dietrich, J.R. Tolkien, Joan of Arc, Muhammand Ali, Barry Goldwater, Rob Zombie, Ricky Martin, Edgar Allan Poe, John Denver, Shari Lewis (Lambchop too?), Susan Lucci, Mel Gibson, Howard Hughes, Mariliyn Manson, Val Kilmer, Richard Nixon, Herman Goering, Al Capone, Mao Tse Tung, Josef Stalin... uh, wait a minute. Sure we can be ambitious, sometimes ruthless but... most of us are softies deep down. At least those of us with our moon in Libra. Let's see. Capricorns....

Dolly Parton! Rod Serling! Diane Keaton! David Bowie! Ethel Merman! Charles Addams! Kitty Diggins! Patti Smith! Gustave Dore! Sissy Spacek! Annie Lennox! Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.! Xavier Cugat! Denzel Washington! Lady Bird Johnson! Maureen Dowd! Nicholas Cage! Chyna! Cicero! Dido! Good Lord, the list goes on and on and on! Just let me extend a happy birthday to my fellow January 4th Cappys -- Mr. Michael Stipe and Ms. Dyan Cannon and Eamonn Bowles (President of Magnolia Pictures who is also in the band The Martinets - with former Bongwater guitarist Dave Rick!) Eamonn just emailed me today that Bernard Sumner of Joy Division and New Order is a January 4th baby!

Oh yeah, so is Klara Glowczewska, editor of Conde Nast TRAVELER. Hey Klara, can you please please PLEASE assign me another story some day? I'm itchin' to go to Tahiti! Or Bhutan! Or ANYWHERE! But for now we're happy to stay home here in rainy L.A. and be feted at our annual favorite-cake-and-pie party! Pecan Pie! Cherry Pie! German Chocolate Cake! Coconut Cream Pie! Gee, getting old isn't such a drag after all.

Oh, and lest I forget... SHIRLEY BASSEY! Check out her incredible song "I, Capricorn"!

And OF COURSE... my fellow Cappy, that singularly unique L.A. Man ROBBIE D. who produced our duet of Motorhead's classic tune "Capricorn"! Find it on Robbie's website by clicking here or on Discogs here. (And hear his cover of Capricorn Dolly Parton's classic "Coat of Many Colors" here!)

Yay!!!!

That was most definietly one of my happiest show moments, despite the tech difficulties of the rest of the show.
I am so glad that a dream came true in that I got not only ONE person interested in covering that song , but TWO!!

I just got the video back after what 3 years???
I'll let you know how it looks.

Happy Cappy , xoxo
