My New Favorite Dress

By Kim Hastreiter

I got so involved in my triangle playing, I forgot to effuse about the last show in New York I saw right before I left for the airport. It was the Anne Klein show designed by my wonderful friend Isabel Toledo. Not only was the show gorgeous and so chic, but Isabel has given an incredible gift to Anne Klein. She has given the AK label one of her most signature brilliant dresses. It is a simple shirtwaist dress that Isabel herself wears almost every day (see photo of Isabel below). Made of either silk or sheer lightly woven cotton, Toledo ties these dresses into tight little balls and dyes them this way and somehow permanently krinkles them. They have a little turned up collar and are simply perfect. I met the president of Anne Klein after the show and I told him to fasten his seatbelt because I think this dress can be bigger than DVF's wrap dress if they market it right. Everyone will want them. They can be rolled up into a ball and crammed in a suitcase. They can be made in dressy versions or casual versions. They can be worn with strappy high heels or sandals with a leather jacket thrown over them. They are so so so chic. Picture above are just a few versions Isabel showed at Anne Klein last week.

Hi Kim,

Would you happen to know how I can reach Isabel Toledo? You mentioned that she's a good friend of yours. I am a recent FIT fashion design grad, and professors of mine keep mentioning that I should explore any opportunities to work under her...If you happen to have even just a mailing address for her in Manhattan, that would be great. Any help is appreciated!

Regards,
Elektra
