Fabian Basabe Interviews... um... Ann Coulter!
By Fabian Basabe
Hello my little fashion junkies. If you've been following my adventures throughout this most recent and fabulous Fashion Week, you saw us talk the talk and walk the walk (while having our photograph taken no less) with the usual suspects. That is why this installment of my blog is oh so much more interesting. Today we are speaking with a Lioness among the Elephants, the reigning goddess of the Republican Party, Ann Coulter! You might wonder why, but do a Google image search; this woman knows how to look good and does it effortlessly. She has been kind enough to take some time out of her busy day to answer a few questions about fashion and politics.
Fabian Basabe: Having lived in New York, have you ever attended Fashion Week in New York?
Ann Coulter: No, though I'd like to just be at a cocktail party where I could talk to people eye to eye.
FB: We have both had our troubles with The New York Observer. They called you "the Republican Michael Moore", and "Rush Limbaugh in a miniskirt.” Don't you think your legs are much better than Rush or Moore's?
AC: Don't knock Rush Limbaugh's legs -- they're better than Hillary's.
FB: Time magazine took an unflattering cover shot of you with a fish eye lens. Which fashion photographer would you most like to shoot your next Time cover and in what setting?
AC: SHONNA VALESKA! She shot the cover photo on my next book. (If Democrats Had any Brains, They'd Be Republicans -- in bookstores Oct 2.) Shonna also shot the best photo ever taken of me for… Time magazine. Time didn't use that photo, instead choosing one of me mid-blink. (The photo editors are either blind or there's some sort of ideological agenda at work. I can't decide.) It is now available in poster size from Young America's Foundation.
FB: You frequently appear in short skirts. Whose skirts do you like this season?
AC: Hmmm, I'm not sure. What's John Edwards wearing? We seem to wear the same panties.
FB: A video of John Edwards fixing his hair appeared on Youtube. Who takes longer to do their hair -- you or John? Who has a better colorist?
AC: Speak of the devil! I do. It must be difficult to concentrate when you have to worry about being sued by the client.
FB: Sexual harassment is a big issue in certain industries such as politics and the modeling business. Do you think people who trade sexual favors really get ahead?
AC: It seems to have worked for Hillary.
FB: You are a brilliant self made and accomplished woman. Would you ever date a model?
AC: Is the model a Republican?
FB: Which is the Bigger Disaster... a) Britney Spears at the VMAs... b) The New York Times.
AC: At least there's hope for Britney.
FB: I once heard from a model that Bush ruined the modeling industry. How would you respond to him? By the way, this was from a male model who did a big ad campaign two years in a row and has been out of work for some time now and rumored to be selling his body in Brooklyn.
AC: That Karl Rove is something, isn't he?
FB: And last but not least... do you love that there is an Ann Coulter Barbie doll?
AC: YES! And her skirt is "actual size."

Comments
When I see or hear Ann Coulter I think of that great nazi propaganda artist Joseph Goebbels ....both believed the sewage they spouted so intently that they became the very essence of their twisted ideology.

Hah! Apparently R Focazio takes himself too seriously. Lighten up Francis, that was a funny interview!

I think I just threw up a little in my mouth. Ann Coulter is a great actress. Even in a politically-neutral interview, she finds a way to come across as a hateful bitch. It's just her schtick.
Posted at 2:10 p.m. ET on Sep 18, 2007 by Chris
The fact that Ann continues to get press/air time to talk all that sh!t makes me want to vomit.

Joke interviews joke.

You have to give Ann credit for one thing. i've never seen a trannie tuck her wenis away so flawlessly.

Ann is great. She makes her point with stinging wit and funny sarcasm and you liberal morons can not seem to understand it, which usually proves her point. LOL

Ok--get a sense of humor--this is actually the funniest interview I've ever read with Ann Coulter. Basabe's questions made me laugh out loud. (And, btw, I'm a Democrat)

No I just think she is a waste of flesh ....heh now that was funny ...but sure it was an amusing interview... but she is not for the most part...then again Hillary does not do much for me either......down with politicians in general ...! the world should be run by smart people ......

The Ignorant are the only ones that dislike Ann Coulter.

Ann continues to be the funniest and most incisive op-ed writer in the business. Compare her carefree wit to the humorlessness and repetitiveness of anyone on the Left.
Come to think of it, that's probably whi the Left can't stand her. She not only refutes their silly public-policy notions; she makes them look dull!

none you supposedly brilliantly posters here could last two minutes in a intellectual conversation with ann. she uses humor often in her interviews because it does no good to talk serious facts with people who don't even have a basic knowledge of history whether it's 200 years ago or 2 days ago. try checking out one of her books sometime from a local library and you might learn how little you know. if you really are interested in obtaining knowledge, you could even use the handy citations and endnotes in her books to back up everything she writes. your personal attacks only continue to show how intellectually lacking you are.
i doubt any of you will take up this challenge, because it's just far more gratifying for you to write uninformed comments on the internet about what a nazi she is and her insulting her appearance. seriously, ask yourself what you've accomplished in your life and realize that you're probably a desperate nobody that's just trying to make it to social security age. however, if you've written at least one book to her many best-sellers, i'm happy to give it a read.

Keep it up Ann. I simple LOVE to hear all these hateful (libs) crying
Posted at 8:19 a.m. ET on Sep 19, 2007 by Richard Moore
Notice how people like "randy" always accuse Ann in cleched terms like "spouting venom". They never give examples. That is because there is always a thread of truth behind Ann's humor. Liberals can't stand the light of truth being shined on them. Its like Dracula and daylight.
It is wonderful how Ann upsets their digestion. LOL

Libs fear the truth... and the truth is funny...!

They say Ann is hateful, then they donate money to moveon.org. Tells you all you need to know about those weenies.

And Limbaugh DOES have better legs than Hillary...
Nicer tush, too!

Whats worse libs, that Ann is smarter than you or that Ann is right - I'll let you pick.
Posted at 12:07 p.m. ET on Sep 19, 2007 by Armand
The image of John Edwards' panties and the image of Hillary's legs is more than I can take!
Have mercy.
I mean, since President's have to exercise in a public manner, can we really take four years of Hillary in a track suit?

Why are a bunch of conservative, liberal-hating, war-mongering, Ann Coulter-loving, wingnuts reading PAPER? You know, PAPER magazine frequently features artists and personalities known to be 'homosexual'. Or 'avant garde'. Or 'intersting'. None of those things coincide with the religious right, the armed forces, FOX 'news', and all the other rubbish that is the basis of of regressive school of thought. Get a life, and go show your support of Ann somewhere else...

Not a huge fan of Ann's black leather dresses, but a have to agree with those people on Ann's side. She's funny, puts ridiculous people in their place, and looks great.

I thought liberals were for free speech? Oh.... I forgot, free speech for THEM only. Why are YOU here reading an Ann Coulter interview if you hate her so much? Could that be because you FEAR her spreading the TRUTH? YOU are the one that needs a life and a CLUE to go with it.
Posted at 3:36 p.m. ET on Sep 19, 2007 by TK
Conservatives are EVERYWHERE, because, unlike LIBERALS, we don't live in an echo chamber surrounded by only people who agree with us. We actually subscribe to the NYT and READ IT! We read liberal papers, magazines, and listen to liberal radio hosts. We even watch CNN and SNL.
Because we know your arguments we are able to rebut them with honest point by point responses, not ad hominems or non sequiturs like liberals tend to use against us (Bush is "stupid", Reagan was a "cowboy"). Unfortunately your very isolation and echo-chamber lives preclude you from actually knowing what our arguments are! So you're never prepared to deal with them on the merits.
And this is why, even though he's not a "conservative", even George Bush runs circles around liberals continually: because they snobbishly think they know him, they never bother to even read what he's written or listen to his speeches - while He does read their books and listen to their talking points....It's like playing poker while knowing what the other guy's cards are! Arguing with liberals is THAT easy.
Ann just throws in zingers and one-liners and insults to make 'em mad all while showing THEIR hypocrisy and the flaws in THEIR policies or principles.
Oh, and most conservatives don't hate liberals or 'gays' or women who've aborted their children. Disagreeing with someone is not the same thing as hating them. Liberals tend to personalize every disagreement into personal hatred.

yes, please.

Ann is OLD OLD OLD! She's almost 50, never been married, no kids! Just OLD and still wearing cocktail dresses from 1987!
As a conservative Christian, she should be married with many kids by now, cuz that's what God wants. But she's not, which means, as a Christian, she is still a virgin! A 50-year-old virgin. No wonder she's a mega-bitch!
She needs to retire. Her schtick was lame back in 2002, but she's still doing the same, tired jokes, even during a neutral interview about fashion. Start collecting your social security and shut the hell up.
Praise Jesus!

Well I hate ann Coulter as is my American right...and think everYthing she spits out is bile thrown up from the fourth dimension of hell whose intent is to divide not unite the country....she offers no positive or insightful comments to the political arena except name calling and well....name calling....the reason liberals dislike Bush is because his politics strictly revolve around he himself and his own interests...not unlike most politicians.I try whenever possible to shed light on the inhumanity these individuals perpetuate unto the human race.....yes America has the freedom of speech but NOT EVERYONE should be able to talk.....especially when the majority of their gib is horse manure....
Posted at 3:39 a.m. ET on Sep 20, 2007 by randy focazio
Randy, what "degree" in liberal arts did you pay for? Worthless as it was, you still didn't get your money's worth. Please, stay away from machines. Take a course in logic...er, make that hairdressing.
Posted at 3:56 p.m. ET on Sep 20, 2007 by Da Coyote
This just in: Randy Focazio thinks "freedom of a speech" a terrible idea.
Also, in other news, dog bites man.
Posted at 12:53 a.m. ET on Sep 21, 2007 by Horny Flatbread
Let's play "Spot the Liberal Bigot":
Randy: "yes America has the freedom of speech but NOT EVERYONE should be able to talk..."
Sorry dude, but the 1st Amendment doesn't work that way. You are free to dislike Ann Coulter, but, despite your giant intellect, you don't get to choose you speaks and who does not.
Randy: "the world should be run by smart people".
Perhaps - then vote for the candidate you believe to be smart. But you don't get to choose who is qualified to be "smart" enough for the rest of us.
Jarret: "Why are a bunch of conservative, liberal-hating, war-mongering, Ann Coulter-loving, wingnuts reading PAPER? You know, PAPER magazine frequently features artists and personalities known to be 'homosexual'. Or 'avant garde'. Or 'intersting'."
What makes you think that being politically conservative disqualifies one from being interested in the arts, fashion or popular culture? No doubt, you would object to stereotyping gays or African-Americans, but you can't resist the opportunity to stereotype people that disagree with you on political issues. Like many "progressives," you apparently are incapable of seeing people as individuals and not representatives of their "minority group."
Chris: "Even in a politically-neutral interview, she finds a way to come across as a hateful bitch."
Kathy Griffin is a woman who also gets paid to be funny and "cutting edge" and who regularly insults and makes fun of conservatives and Christians. Wouldn't she be a "hateful bitch" too?

As Paper has gone increasingly mainstream over the years, my attention has drifted accordingly. I guess this piece just about wraps it up. My reading of Paper magazine has now officially ended after almost 15 years.
Are you editors really so clueless as to think it's cute to "interview" this homophobic fascist about fashion week? Every "faggot" in that tent should have spit on her.
Hey, Fabian. Thanks for the insult.
Posted at 7:26 p.m. ET on Sep 22, 2007 by friendlier
well your right Darwin ....
But Im sure conservative mind groups like Ann Coulter would like to see the first Amendment vanished or at least hasten those that use it to voice opposition in any way to what the ruling political party does as traitorous.NOT...unlike what Herman Goering and the national socialist movement of Nazi germany was doing to the german people in the thirties...sparking opposition in the masses against those who opposed popular thought by labeling them traitors or outrageous comments designed specifically to entice the public. Its one thing if its done constructively but she is the conservative parties bash girl who hardly has anything if ever intelligent to say like..."we should invade their country and convert them to Christianity"....ow thats conservative politics for ya...the major difference in Liberal politics to conservative is mostly that liberals acknowledge the problems America has as a nation concerning;diplomacy, health, poverty, environmental issues...etc.....basically saying there is a large hole in the dam and everything is not perfect.I could go and on.....but the subject matter is not worth the effort...so basically yes; if your in a position of influence then say something intelligent or shut the fuck up.....and don't use grieving widows of 9/11 to sell your book,it's classless...people like Ann coulter and Rush Limbaugh are over paid propagandists who likely habor no REAL opinion other than what they are paid to say..... which means they have nothing to say at all.

And to my fellow Americans who have not supported my cause on this blog page please let it be noted that you did not grasp the degree to my sarcasm with which I spun my hatefulness to ann Coulter ....much like I do not see the humor in Anns political ribbing .... p.S. she sure is alot like Joseph Goebbels though....but he dressed better.

"Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger."
-- Herman Goering at the Nuremberg trials
...I love this quote and it may not seem to have relevance to the subject matter but it does .....honestly I don't think there really is any liberal or conservative ideology which acquires power and runs this country. Both parties basically say the same thing while we run around like chickens with our heads cut off ....we have enough freedom to riot in the streets but it will never get beyond just that....maybe it should.

I love Ann Coulter and was completely wrong to even consider taking her seriously...or even as a living breathing person....
enjoy...!
Posted at 10:35 p.m. ET on Sep 24, 2007 by randy focazio
Ann Coulter does not spread 'truth', and although, yes, she has the right to say whatever the hell she wants to say, and often does, it doesn't mean that what she says is 'truth'. BTW, TK and Darwin Akbar, I will change my opinions of conservatives and Republicans, as soon as I have the same civil right to marry the person I love, who happens to be same gender as myself, and as soon as Ann Coulter goes on FOX news and declares her support for gay marriage in this country, and christian conservatives stop fighting to abolish what civil rights I do have in my country. Until that day, I will continue to publicly shame anyone who chooses to associate or politically align themselves with the Republican party, the party fueled by hate and greed. If you associate with them, you are just as bad as them...SHAME ON YOU!!!
Posted at 2:25 a.m. ET on Sep 27, 2007 by jarrett
Old horse face can be funny it's true, unfortunately it's her serious opinions that scare the hell out of me.

the frustrating thing is that coulter is cast as a pundit when all she is good for is a ridiculous one-liner. and saying, in so many words, hillary is ugly and john edwards is a faggot is not what i would call humor. i would just call it malicious. i just have an issue with paper being such a platform for rhetoric and fodder. if coulter was capable of being responsive, rather than just reiterating schtick, that would be one thing. if she actually were intelligent, informed and more than a simple doctrinaire that would be another. yet she is a doctrinaire whose doctrine is simply being partisan, not something nuanced or complex, as i think we all recognize the problems of the world and their solutions to be. the fact that a so called "pundit" is content to make one liners breaks my heart. the fact that paper encourages her insubstantial pot-shots pisses me off. and fabian basabe is still spineless and not all that intelligent, but thats no suprise.
