Happy Birthday to Me!

By Dennis Dermody

It's my birthday this weekend (I share the same date as Keanu Reeves -- my soul mate). But got a great early present from a close friend: a PAL DVD of a movie that makes me insane: Je T'Aime Moi Non Plus (I Love You, I Don't), a bizarre 1976 film directed by Serge Gainsbourg starring Warhol superstar Joe Dallesandro as Krassky, a gay garbage truck driver who makes his boyfriend Padovan (Hugues Quester) wildly jealous when he falls for the boyish-looking waitress at a truck stop named Johnny (Jane Birkin).

Unfortunately, Krassky can only fuck the girl from behind and she screams so loudly during their love-making they keep getting thrown out of hotels. This arthouse madness never officially opened in the U.S., but when I managed a movie theater in Provincetown, I got a print one fall and it had audiences howling with laughter over how nutty and wonderful it was. Here's a scene from the movie with the lovely Jane Birkin and Joe Dallesandro floating nude on an innertube. There's nothing more beautiful on this earth than Joe Dallesandro's ass. Period.
