Pete Townshend Hopes for Another Broadway Hit
By Whitney Spaner

It appears that Peter Townshend is taking another stab at Broadway. The Who guitarist and songwriter, famous on the Great White Way for his rock opera Tommy (which ran from 1993-1995) has written a new musical based on his book (printed only on the Internet) called The Boy Who Heard Music. The production will premiere July 13th at Vassar College and from there hopefully go to Broadway or London’s West End. Des McAnuff who directed Tommy and more recently the Tony-winning Jersey Boys is rumored to be on board as director when/if the show moves to a bigger venue. The musical is said to be about an aging rocker, who reminisces about forming his band with three childhood friends. If you think this story sounds familiar, Michael Riedel reports in his NY Post column that it's very autobiographical.
I happen to be a huge fan of Tommy so I’ve included an ancient looking pic of Michael Cerveris as the original Tommy on Broadway.
