GIVE A SHOUT TO WORD UP! wordup@papermag.com

Word of Mouth

Intern-al Affairs: Meet Justin A. Gonçalves

By Carol Lee

By Blaire Huntley

justin.jpgAge: 19

Position: Papermag.com Editorial Intern

Hometown: Westfield, Dirrty Jerz

School and Major: Columbia University, American Studies & Creative Writing

Facebook or MySpace: Facebook for stalking; MySpace for music.

Fave Blog: Daytrotter, La Blogotheque.

Fave Designer: uhhh.

Best thing about interning at PAPER: Having (had?) access to unreleased records like "The Mix-Up" (Beastie Boys) and "Strawberry Jams" (Animal Collective).

The worst: Having to wear sneakers and jeans, or pants at all really.

Fave PAPER cover: November 2004 (Jay-Z) and May 1996 (Beck)

Fave PAPER person and why: Alexis, because she hooks me up with all the dope shit (see above).

Where do you see yourself in five years: Writing music and teaching in Philadelphia.

Fave free things you do in NYC: Ride a bicycle.

Fave boutique: Does Bleecker St. Records count?

Fave restaurant: Saga

Fave bar: Banjo Jim's. Free live country!

First five songs that play when you set your iPod to shuffle (BE HONEST!):
1. Dirty Projectors - "New New Attitude"
2. John Coltrane - "The Father And The Son And The Holy Ghost"
3. Beastie Boys - "Shake Your Rump"
4. Wilco - "Pot Kettle Black"
5. Miles Davis - "On the Corner/New York Girl/Thinking of One Thing and Doing Another/Vote for Miles"

Everyone's always talking about global warming -- what's your favorite solution to the problem?
Illegalizing automobiles and giving out free bicycles (with helmets of course!). That, or, building a huge ceiling fan the size of Canada. It could hang from the moon and be powered by thousands of people running in hamster wheels. That might cool things down, at least in the summertime.
