MORE DOWNTOWN WILDLIFE
By Kim Hastreiter
Believe it or not I saw a huge HAWK sitting in a tree in Washington Square Park today as I dragged my dog Romeo to the dog run this afternoon. It was GIGANTIC. I've been hearing scuttlebutt that there was a big hawk living in Washington Square Park for a month or so, scaring all the animals but I never saw it until today. It has supposedly been eating pigeons like crazy and the squirrels and rats are all on Orange Alert. I wonder if this hawk is related to Pale Male the hawk living on 86th street (see photo)... Everyone at the dog run is a-buzz about it....
Speaking of my beloved Dandie Dinmont terrier Romeo, there is big buzz lately about the unique Dandie Dinmont breed (see photo) and especially a VERY cute specimen named Harry (owned by Bill Cosby) who is being gossiped about lately as a potential winner at Westminster this year (at least in terrier category, if not potentially ranking as one of the best in show!). Now for Dandie Dinmont owners this is a huge deal as our Dandies never seem to win anything, especially as the breed is in dire danger of extinction its even more important that the Dandie gets ink so awareness is spread.
Harry is really cute I must say. I can't wait to see him up close up at Westminster Tuesday Feb. 12th at Madison Sq. Garden.
