Fiercely Political Feminist To Follow and Director Extraordinaire Ava DuVernay's highly anticipated 13-episode dramatic series Queen Sugar is almost here, and the first trailer is as stunning as we'd hoped.

Executive produced by Oprah Winfrey, Queen Sugar is a dramatic series based on a novel by Natalie Baszile that centers the life of community activist Nova (played by True Blood's Rutina Wesley). Nova is a devoted mother and sister trying to keep her family (played by the likes of Kofi Siriboe, Tina Lifford and Dawn-Lyen Gardner, no less) together when they're thrust into a situation-- involving the family's sugarcane farm-- that reunites them.

DuVernay recently announced that the Grammy Award-nominated musician Meshell Ndegeocello would score the show. The trailer's score and acting is perfect, just like all things brought into the world by Winfrey and DuVernay. Tune in to The Oprah Winfrey Network on September 6th to witness greatness.
