Paul Iacono: Beautiful People 2011
By Yasha Wallin

Even before his morning caffeine jolt -- two shots of espresso in regular coffee -- Paul Iacono is bursting with energy. The strong brew helps when he has to be "on," but it's hard to believe that the 22-year-old actor, who talks a mile a minute, is ever anything but "on."
The Secaucus-born Iacono is the breakout star of the MTV series The Hard Times of RJ Berger, a crass, coming-of-age comedy. Fifteen-year-old RJ Berger struggles with the difficulties of high school, pines for his dream girl and suffers his eccentric parents, whose sexual exploits are frequently imposed on their puberty-riddled son. The show's twist (he's extremely well-endowed) is both Berger's curse and secret weapon.
Iacono got his start early on, impersonating his favorite performers. "Frank Sinatra and Ethel Merman were my go-to's when I was four-years-old," he says. His own teenage experience, at Manhattan's legendary Professional Performing Arts School, was nurturing compared to Berger's. There he learned "that it was okay to be weird."
Though Iacono is focused on film and TV right now, talking about Prince/ Elizabeth, the play he spent the past three years writing, is what he's most passionate about. "It's like Entourage in Nolita," he describes. He hopes the play will find a home at a downtown theater: "I don't travel north of 14th Street very often," Iacono, who lives on the Lower East Side, admits. In the meantime, Iacono is gearing up to leave the LES to film an indie dramedy upstate with none other than Jaleel White, aka Steve Urkel, with whom he will share a house. "We're going to party like it's 1989," he says.
The thought of watching the two side-by-side is almost as exciting as the second season of Hard Times, which premiered last month, and features guest appearances by Paris Hilton, Weezer and Jersey Shore's Vinny Guadagnino. And no, Iacono never thought he'd be acting alongside any members of that eclectic trifecta. "But nor did I ever imagine I'd be living in a house with Steve Urkel. I take these things a day at a time."
