Rebranding America: Jonathan Horowitz
Rebranding America: Jonathan Horowitz
By Jamie Granoff

Working in video, sound, digital imaging, painting and sculpture, New York-based artist Jonathan Horowitz examines the cultures of politics, celebrity, cinema, war and consumerism. In his recent work, Horowitz presents a nuanced critique of the connections between pop culture and the darker elements of the American experience.
"I redesigned the American flag, reinvested with color symbolism -- red and blue represent north-south cultural divide, brought together through the gradation of the stripes, so it's about unity. When trying to think about the things that I value the most about American culture, I came up with the promise of people coming together."
