Beautiful People 2009: Alpinestars
By Jamie Granoff

Through their actionwear company Alpinestars, Gabriele Mazzarolo and Denise Focil aim to bring sophistication and romance back to the rebellious world of motorcycle racing. "You have incredible freedom when riding, an uncontrolled happiness and a true closeness to the environment," says Mazzarolo, in his Italian accent and skin-tight jeans. "Motorcycles are the ultimate accessory." Focil, model -- beautiful with jet-black hair, concurs. In fact, it appears that the only thing the two disagree on is that they don't disagree on anything.
Ecuador-born Focil first met Mazzarolo at a supercross race in Los
Angeles and recalls that "just like I knew fashion was essential in my
life, I also immediately knew this man was, too." They began dating and
shortly after, Focil was brought into the fold of Alpinestars, which was
founded in Italy by Mazzarolo's father. (The company has offices in L.A.
and Tokyo, but the main development lab remains in Northern Italy.) The
company has since branched out into manufacturing all types of
protective and performance gear, and this fall, it will unveil its new
high-end luxury line of clothing, Alpinestars by Denise Focil. And after
that, the two will simply continue on with their lives together. Says
Mazzarolo: "Traveling, living and working together works well for us. It
rarely ever feels like work, it's all pure pleasure."
