Off Stage: The East Village Fragments

One of the most wonderful downtown theater events of 2006 was Peculiar Works Projects' site-specific tour and staging of excerpts from 17 ground-breaking Off-Off-Broadway plays. Utilizing 14 directors and 80 performers, the pieces were performed outdoors at various West Village addresses, close to where the '60s plays were originally performed. This year, they are doing the East Village '60s theater scene -- at sites like La Mama, Theatre Genesis (St. Mark's Church) and the Bouwerie Lane Theater -- highlighting works by Sam Shepard, Megan Terry, Charles Ludlam, Rochelle Owens, and more.

Various sites and venues in the East Village, four tours nightly, (212) 352-3101. June 14–30.
