Beautiful People 2007: Carlos Morales, Peppermint Gummibear, Cazwell, Ladyfag & Maverick Cook

"New York nightlife is dead," say a lot of the original downtown-scene icons from yesteryear. Everyone is searching for the next Factory or Studio 54, but it just ain't happening. What has replaced these megaclubs and pop cults is a raging underground community. Left with the keys to this uncontrollable palace are the hosts and DJs of the evening. This motley crew consists of (from left to right) Carlos Morales, a DJ; Peppermint Gummibear, a performer and party candy; Cazwell, a rapper and party guru; Ladyfag, a true woman hostess and dancer; and Maverick Cook, the smallest doorman with the fiercest attitude. These personalities provide the music, the chatter, the crowd editing and the dance moves that have invigorated the New York–downtown scene. They are hired for their antics, outfits and attitudes -- all in an effort to make those cocktails go down with ounces of fun. These are the celebrities of gay nightlife in Manhattan. Can you imagine getting stuck in this elevator? It would be the party of the year!
