Antony Gormley Shines a Light on "Test Sites"
British sculptor Antony Gormley -- whose nude sculptures are currently looming around Madison Square park -- recently walked us through "Test Sites," his new exhibition in London's White Cube Gallery. The installation is site-specific and spans two gallery floors. On the top floor: a series of massive sculptures weighing in at a ton-and-a-half each of solid iron. On the floor below: space. Comprised of 15 interconnecting light-based frames that activate in the darkness, the expansive bottom floor is blasted with 70,000 watts of light, leaving gallery revelers exposed with nowhere to hide. It's about dreams and anatomy; architecture and light; all pulled together with Gormley's super-technological procedures. Is it fun? Maybe not for the light-sensitive... But interesting? Definitely.
