Just read in Womens Wear Daily today that my hero George Lois, the legendary art director famous for his decade of controversial Esquire covers in the sixties, is hard at work on his next book called Ali Rap. The book, which will be published by Taschen this spring,  envisions Ali as the world's first rap star. We can't wait to see what the seventy-something Lois comes up with. George Lois has been my guru since I began PAPER in the 80's. His work was such an influence on me and eventually I was lucky enough to get to know the man. As luck would have it, he lives downstairs from my parents in the Village and my dad, who knew of my admiration for him, needled him for years about me and PAPER until he finally took notice and met me for an interview. The guy is amazing.  If you don't know his work, you should immediately check out his books 1) Whats the Big Idea? and 2) The Art of Advertising, which although out of print can be found on the web easily. I can't even believe he has a home page but he does and you should check it out if not just to see how gorgeous he used to be when he was a young'n in 1960. (to die for)
