Back in 1993, Craig McDean, one of the most celebrated photographers in fashion (his images regularly grace the pages of Vogue and W), took a break from his regular skinny silhouettes, and spent a year living in Japan where he became fascinated by the world of Sumo wrestlers; waking up at 5 a.m. to photograph them during practice. Almost 20 years later, he's collected these images into a book, and will be showing them at New York's Half Gallery on Sept. 12. Above, two striking images from the show.
