It's no secret that we're fans of royal pomp and circumstance and that usually means flipping through European gossip magazines but now our love of all things monarch-related will lead us to one of the tri-state area's most respected repositories of culture, the Newark Museum. Royals and Regalia: Inside the Palaces of Nigeria's Monarchs is a new show of large-scale photographs by Nigerian photographer George Osodi. The portraits are grand yet human and although the details of the royal paraphernalia might be different than what we're used to, the dignity and regal stature of the subjects is universal. They're also a reminder that although the news we hear from Nigeria today mostly deals with terrorism and strife, the culture of the West African nation remains rich and vibrant.

The show is on view through August 9th.
