A remarkable thing about the very talented Aurel Schmidt is that she is self-taught -- a pretty well-known fact by now. Also remarkable is how she managed to conquer the art world at the tender age of 26, without compromising her right to party. Schmidt's often hilarious hyper-surrealist drawings of objects and insects, color-penciled condoms and trees, and her runaway-chic fashion looks -- an irresistible cocktail of raw talent and style -- have enchanted both sides of the Atlantic, from New York to Paris. Schmidt first gained attention for her drawings featured at the "tinyvices" show at Spencer Brownstone Gallery in 2006. Jeffrey Deitch saw her work right before her debut solo show at Peres Projects L.A. in 2007 and signed her on for a solo exhibition and a book, both titled "Man Eater." X-rated photographer Terry Richardson shot her bearing (almost) all in issue 12 of Olivier Zahm's Purple magazine.
