Halloween in New York is many things -- but mostly it's just very overwhelming. Which is why we have put together a short list of the most hot 'n' happening shindigs going down around town on Saturday night. Have fun, kids! And don't take candy from strangers!
THE LAST MASQUERADE at 3rd Ward
Seven live bands (including Sam Sparro & Golden and The Love Grenades), a dozen DJs (Mr. Saturday Night's Justin Carter and Eamon Harkin, Kimyon and Derek Plaslaiko, among others) will be throwing it down at 3rd Ward's tri-level arty-party space. In addition to the run of the mill musicians and DJs, expect fire performers, plus games of "chance and mercy" and lots of cheap booze.
3RD Ward, 260 Meserole St., Bushwick, Brooklyn, (718)-715-4961, 7 p.m, $30.
VICE MAGAZINE 15TH ANNIVERSARY HALLOWEEN PARTY
VICE will be celebrating its 15th birthday this Halloween with an all-out blow-out, that's pretty much the hottest ticket in town tonight. They spent no less than 250 big K's on the event, and here will be an open bar all night featuring copious amounts of tequila courtesy of Hornitos, skate ramps along with performances from Bad Brains, The Jesus Lizard, Dave1 from Chromeo, Peanut Butter Wolf, Nick Catchudubs, Titus Andronicus and Children. The warehouse has a capacity of about 1,800 and if you haven't gotten an invite, and don't show up dressed as some sort of 1994 cultural cliché, you probably won't get in. Happy Birthday VICE!
Warehouse on N 10th St. between Barry and Wythe, Williamsburg, Brooklyn. 9 p.m, Invite only.
CODEX GIGAS at Starr Space
Billed as the ultimate Halloween art party, this extravaganza is gonna be weirder than your average freaky Halloween affair. Harmony Korine, Terence Koh, Disco Mayhem (Rita Ackermann & Lizzi Bougatsos), No Bra and company lead you through dark and strange doors of the fourth dimension of art-damaged nuttiness.
Starr Space, 108-110 Starr St., Bushwick, Brooklyn. 8 p.m., $10.
ANNIVERSARY PARTY at Fille de Joie
How about starting your Halloween early at Fille de Joie, the boudoir-inspired vintage boutique in Williamsburg with "plant spirits distilled by young and intriguing alchemist Antonio"? You'll either be put into a cab by a friend or the hostess Madam CC before 8 or have the most spookiciously psychedelic (and long) Halloween night of your life.
Fille de Joie, 197 Grand St., Wiliamsburg, Brooklyn. 6-10 p.m. Free.
DIA DE LOS MUERTOS at El Museo del Barrio
An all-day celebration at the museum that truly understands the spirit of the holiday. Go because what better reason than this to check out the newly re-opened El Museo and stay for the mask-making workshops, food tastings, concerts and a special performance by Mexican actress Susana Alexander!
El Museo del Barrio,1230 Fifth Ave. 11 a.m.-10:30 p.m. Free.
