THE HANGOVER

Before there was Judd Apatow, director Todd Phillips was the reigning cinematic king of frat-house humor (Road Trip; Old School). Now he's back with a raucous, rudely hilarious comedy about a bachelor party in Las Vegas that goes horribly awry when the revelers wake up in a trashed suite, with no memory of the previous night and no idea where the groom (Justin Bartha) is. Ed Helms does a nice comic turn as the dweebish henpecked dentist who wakes up with a missing tooth and a hooker for a wife (Heather Graham). Bradley Cooper brings a handsome, manic charm, and Zach Galifianakis, as the weird and bearded brother of the bride, is disturbingly funny. Sure, it's a "Dude, what did we do last night?" comedy, but the off-kilter high points really score. And keep an eye out for the creepy wedding singer at the end (he had me in stitches).
