APPARENTLY INVISIBLE: SELECTIONS SPRING 2009 & SUN XUN, SHOCK OF TIME

Apparently Invisible is a group multimedia exhibition that tests the limits of seeing -- by requiring optical gymnastics. In one piece, a pair of overalls hangs on a wall, smudged with paint -- but upon closer inspection the viewer finds that the splatters are not, in fact, the work of a clumsy painter but rather intricate embroidery by Susan Collis. In the Drawing Room, see Sun Xun's two hand-drawn animations of a series of prints that depict the passing of time and the cultural evolution of China, often using Communist newspapers as a device.

The Drawing Center, 35 Wooster St., (212) 219-2166. Opening reception February 19, 6-8 p.m. Through March 28
