"Most of Ione's family were on mushrooms," Australian singer-songwriter Ben Lee remembers of first meeting his wife, actress Ione Skye, on Christmas Eve in 1996 at Skye's house in Laurel Canyon. Lee was 18 and living in New York with his then-girlfriend Claire Danes. Skye had just ended a marriage to Beastie Boy Adam Horovitz. "After those big relationships for us ended, we re-met as friends for a date two years ago," Skye says. "We get along in every way." The couple tied the knot on December 29, 2008, in Southern India's Tamil Nadu. Sakthi Narayani Amma, a Hindu guru of whom Lee became a follower in 1993, conducted the ceremony. The day after the wedding, the newlyweds worked at the orphanage Amma runs. They plan to live in L.A., but will return to India every year.
Where's your favorite spot to get it on in L.A.?
Ione: At home in bed. I'm not much for public display of
affection anymore.
Ben: Anywhere in public.
Where's your favorite place to go when you just want to really
feel each other -- be romantic, private, alone?
Ione:
Hotel rooms in Australia, India and New York.
Ben: The
carpool lane at Oakwood Elementary School.
What do you like the most about your mate?
Ione:
His skin, his emotional support with my career and my personal growth.
He's great support with my daughter Kate. He's fun to talk to, great in
bed.
Ben: She's the most loving person I've ever met.
What annoys you more than anything else?
Ione:
When he gets fussy.
Ben: When she thinks I'm being too
fussy.
What model car do you drive? And if you're going to an event, who
drives -- you or him/her?
Ione: A hybrid Lexus. I
drive, I get car sick if anyone else drives, especially Ben and my
mother for some reason.
Ben: A Toyota Prius. She drives.
What's the most L.A. thing you've ever done as a couple?
Ione: When we go to our shrinks in Beverly Hills (around the
corner from each other) and then eat at Urth Caffe after.
Ben: Going to a children's birthday party at Golden Bridge Yoga.
If L.A. slid into the ocean, where would you move?
Ione: New York City.
Ben: The newly-formed island
of Westwood.
What is the toughest thing about being a private couple in a city
that thrives on the anti-private?
Ione: We aren't
famous enough to get bothered by it. We're in the public eye just enough
to stay "in the game" and get occasional perks.
Ben: Our
sex tape is a hard sell with all the competition out there. We ended up
putting it on Limewire.
