Fashion’s bright young things Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough of Proenza Schouler are following in the footsteps of Isaac Mizrahi, Karl Lagerfeld, Stella McCartney, Luella Bartley and Madonna, who have all lent their names to discount retailers. The design duo has created a resort-wear line for Target that will debut in January of 2007. If what we saw at the preview is any indication, the collection will be wildly popular. I have to say, Jack and Lazaro really made the collection with mainstream consumers in mind. Tweens and teens alike will snatch up all the heather grey skinny jeans, candy-colored belts and sailor-rope-printed bikinis. The older crowd will go gaga for the flirty mini-skirts, sea-breezy sundresses and the PS signature piped bustier tops. An assortment of bags -- weekend totes and simple but elegant suede clutches -- all made my wish list. Happy preppy was the overall vibe. The best part was the price point -- nothing was over $50. But all the pieces were well constructed; stitched to last. Nothing looked cheap and the materials felt good to the touch. But enough gushing already!
