Three AsFour

Now into their second season as a trio, Three asFour (the design collective formerly known as AsFour) put together their most adult show to date. It started right on time at Deitch Projects on Wooster Street, and in place of the usual operatic live music they're known for, one simple harpist provided the show's soundtrack. The models waltzed down the staircase and perched themselves on a spinning cake stand wearing muted autumn colors -- with the exception of the exclamation point show-closer, a floor-length gown in fuchsia.

Every piece was adorned with unmistakable AsFour markings -- delicate lightness, soft volume, cascading "flower" petals and curvy silhouettes. However, for those who don't consider their fashion palette particularly "AsFour," the hooded trench was very demure and classic. The overall mood of the show was somewhat somber -- as opposed to the "life-is-a-cabaret" shows of the past. But no matter, this collective never forgets to dab a dash of humor onto what they do, and like true artists, insist on following their vision rather than the trend of the moment.
