NIGHTLIFE PORTFOLIO

AS TOLD TO CAROL LEE

I'm not a businessman. [But] my business used to be and still is thievery, to some extent. I came across a camera, which I thieved when I was 16 and started taking pictures. I've been partying for years, probably since I was 11. I did my first line of coke when I was 13 years old and I've been partying every night and taking pictures ever since. Everything's a blur and every night is New Year's as far as I'm concerned. [When I'm at a party, I look for] a dark corner, a wallet, a bag of blow and some love to go.

When I was about 17, I was [hanging out with a now-famous photographer who] decided he wanted coke blown up his ass. I was freaked out and was like, "I'm not going to do it." So I filled up an entire drinking straw with cocaine and somebody put it up his ass as he bent over. He pissed on the floor and we went to sleep. I really wish I had taken that picture but at the time I really didn't have the nerve. I was too grossed out. Now nothing grosses me out.

These days [going out] seems kind of bland. Fashion Week just passed and I went to too many parties. I didn't have much fun. It's just a bunch of nonsense. My friends get me out, though. Normally, we have what I call a "sock hop." We meet at a house and everyone takes their shoes off. We play old soul records, drink Wild Turkey and dance together so we don't even have to deal with the bullshit and everyone who moved here from somewhere else. We keep it local.

I use a camera that I made of wood, palm leaves and cocaine. It takes film, which I make myself as well, and it works wonders. I don't fuck with scenes. I do my own thing. As far as different reactions and cities go I'm always on the street. No matter where I am -- whether I get chased, punched, whatever -- they're all the same to me.
