While you were enjoying the July 4th fireworks and gorging on hot dogs and Bud Light Lime-A-Ritas, the first official trailer for Jimi: All Is By My Side came out, featuring Outkast's André 3000 in the title role. The film, which was written by John Ridley (12 Years a Slave), did not get the rights from Hendrix's estate to play the legend's original music so, instead, the movie focuses primarily on the artist's early rise in London between 1966-67 before he broke out. Though André 3000 only has a couple other acting credits to his name (Idlewild, anyone?), he seems to capably transform into Jimi and nail the late superstar's charisma and swagger (he even got positive reviews when the film premiered at the Toronto Film Fest). The trailer also features André's co-stars Imogen Poots and Hayley Atwell, playing Hendrix's friend and girlfriend, respectively. Watch the clip above.
