A relatively recent addition to L.A., Erin Falls is the director of one of the city's buzziest new galleries. Born out of Gavin Brown's Enterprise in New York, Hannah Hoffman Gallery in Hollywood has quickly made a name for itself via wonderfully organic shows like their recent artist-directed installation featuring works by other transplants to L.A., such as artists Matt Sheridan Smith, Joe Zorrilla and Sam Falls (who happens to be Erin's husband).
Describe what you do in 3 words.
Art gallery director.
Describe living in L.A. in 3 words.
Great, sunny, sweet.
What are you working on now?
This month we open a show of paintings by Jörg Immendorff, and then we'll have a curated show by Rirkrit Tiravanija in the winter.
If you got to take over MOCA, what would your first exhibition be?
If I were to take over MOCA as the director I'd hire a great curator, like Lynne Cooke or Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev and let them plan the exhibitions.
What's the biggest misconception about L.A.?
The thing that's interesting about Los Angeles is that it is actually very L.A. Everything you hear about it is pretty much true. It's sunny and new age-y and there's lots of traffic. Lots of people surf and we don't go out much. We have dinner parties. The only misconception I can think of is that it does get a little cold in the winter. Not terribly freezing, or anywhere near New York cold, but I do wear a puffy jacket. And a hat.
Who's the most beautiful person you can think of?
My husband, Sam. He has the most beautiful eyes that lead to his most beautiful brain.
What's a touristy L.A. activity that's actually worth doing?
What's your best celebrity run-in story?
I once saw Snooki at SoulCycle. She looked good!
If you could be any star from Old Hollywood, who would you be?
Ronald Reagan, for obvious reasons.
