Other than its title, this "Black Friday" has absolutely nothing to do with today's big shopping orgy. The song was originally released in 1975 on Steely Dan's fourth album, Katy Lied, and our oldie-but-goodie video features the band performing live at Sony Studios in New York City in January of 2000. So what's the song about? Supposedly it refers to Friday, September 24, 1869, when the feds uncovered a plot by greedy investors to artificially inflate the price of gold and then upset the scheme by dumping tons of gold into the market and forcing the price down.
