Welcome to Trailer Trash, highlighting the best, worst, and so-so in new movie trailers.
For those who really love Dickens, the prospect of another movie version of Great Expectations must be both an exciting and annoying one. Luckily for you, director Mike Newell's decision to cast Helena Bonham Carter as the eccentric dowager Miss Havisham was a pretty brilliant (if obvious) one. While Bonham Carter may have been our main focus of attention, Jeremy Irvine and Holliday Grainger also provide solid romantic intrigue, and a mysterious Ralph Fiennes adds an air of danger to the proceedings for those of us who don't already know how the story unfolds. With all of the lush sets, costumes and music you would expect from a Mike Newell movie -- his most recent films being Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Love in the Time of Cholera and Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time -- it looks to be your standard high-budget period drama. There's no release date set yet.
